Aluminium Copper Alloy Plates

A high strength 4 to 5% Copper alloy produced in extruded bar and profile form, in the fully heat-treated condition (solution heat-treated & artificially aged).Normally stocked in the T6511 condition (stress relieved by controlled stretching) Except for sizes under 10mm diameter and over 203.2mm diameter. (T6 only). Over 203.mm diameter is manufactured to chemical composition Only.Machinability of aluminium alloy 2014A is very good.Typical applications of aluminum alloy 2014A are high strength componenets especially for use in the aerospace and defence industries.

Temper Types

This datasheet relates to temper T6511. The most common temper for aluminium alloy 2014A are:

  • T6 - Solution heat treated and artificially aged
  • T3 - Solution heat treated, cold worked and naturally aged
  • T6511 - Solution heat treated and stress-relieved by stretching then artificially aged with minor straightening after aging - Equivalent to T4 condition
Supplied Forms

Round Bar is stocked in the range 1/2inch to 10inch diameter.
Plate is stokced in thicknesses 1/2inch to 4 inch.

Characteristics


Aluminium alloy 6082 is a medium strength alloy with excellent corrosion resistance. It has the highest strength of the 6000 series alloys. Alloy 6082 is known as a structural alloy. In plate form, Aluminium alloy 6082 is the alloy most commonly used for machining. As a relatively new alloy, the higher strength of Aluminium alloy 6082 has seen it replace 6061 in many applications. The addition of a large amount of manganese controls the grain structure which in turn results in a stronger alloy. In the T6 and T651 temper, Aluminium alloy 6082 machines well and produce tight coils of swarf when chip breakers are used.

Characteristics

Aluminium Alloy Plates 5052 is one of the higher strength non-heat-treatable alloys. It has a high fatigue strength and excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in marine atmospheres. The formability of the grade is excellent and in the annealed condition it offers higher strengths than 1100 or 3003 grades. One of the most popular alloys.

Typical Applications

Aluminium Alloy Plates 5052 is often used in high strength sheet metal work, marine components, appliances, fuel and oil tubing, signs, trucks bodies and electrical cabinets.

The most common tempers for 1050 aluminium are:

Weldability

When welding 1050 to itself or an alloy from the same subgroup the recommended filler wire is 1100. For welding to alloys 5083 and 5086 or alloys from the 7XXX series, the recommend wire is 5356. For other alloys use 4043 filler wire.

Aluminium 5083 is known for exceptional performance in extreme environments. 5083 is highly resistant to attack by both seawater and industrial chemical environments.
Alloy 5083 also retains exceptional strength after welding. It has the highest strength of the non-heat treatable alloys but is not recommended for use in temperatures in excess of 65°C.

Temper Types

The most common tempers for 5083 aluminium are:

  • O - Soft
  • H111 - Some work hardening imparted by shaping processes but less than required for H11 temper
  • H32 - Work hardened by rolling then stabilised by low-temperature heat treatment to quarter hard

Weldability

When welding 5083 to itself or another alloy from the same sub-group, the recommended filler metal is 5183. Other suitable fillers are 5356 and 5556.
